It’s finally here – 2018!

Molly and I almost didn’t make it to 2018 because our neighbors scared us half to death with fireworks.

“PLEASE make the booming stop!”

You can’t tell from the pic but I was shaking WORSE than a leaf! It was awful.

Before the fireworks started, Molly was super excited about NYE:

Mom gave her a whole Trazodone so she wasn’t shaking and barely drooled, but she did hide when the fireworks really started booming.

“I’m just gonna be down here for a little bit.”

The night was definitely worse for Rudee. He got sick to his tummy and things have kind of gone downhill from there. In fact, he’s no longer eating, his fever is back up to 105 and he is having a hard time breathing tonight. First thing tomorrow morning, Mom and Dad will be taking him to the vet to say goodbye.

We were lucky enough to get another week with him. During this past week, he was spoiled with love and was allowed to eat treats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not just dog treats but cheeseburgers, chicken, and hot dogs – LOTS of hot dogs!

Macy has been going between trying to get him to play, avoiding him, and simply being with him:

She’s going to be so lost without him. Mom will be taking her to the vet with them so Macy can say goodbye to him after it’s done. Mom and Dad think this is very important because when he was at the vet 2 weeks ago, Macy was going crazy looking for him everywhere. She needs to know he’s not coming home.

To try to prepare for this big change, Mom and Dad have been letting Molly out with Macy under careful supervision:

Hopefully, in time, the 2 of them can learn to be friends again. This is already a big improvement.

We know that this isn’t great news for the 1st day of the year but we’ve always been very honest with you. This is hard, sad, and unexpected but we still have hope that 2018 will be a good year.

To you, our friends, we wish you all that is wonderful for 2018.

You know Noodle its always fun to hear about the good stuff but we’re all like a big family so that means we here with you for the sad and hard stuff too. I’ve been wondering how Rudee was doing. It’s a difficult decision to make and my heart hurts for all of you but especially for Macy. That is a good idea your folks have about taking Macy with, it might help her understand.
I’ll be praying you all of you, and that Molly and Macy will get used to each other again. Cuddles and hugs, Margret

    • This past year, Mom didn’t help me blog not just because of time but also because she felt we had nothing happy to share. We don’t want people to feel sad when they stop by. At the same time, we know that our friends want to know what’s really going on. Mom says it’s difficult to decide what to share. Thank you for sticking by us as usual. You give such warm, soft cuddles and hugs. *ear licks* Noodle

Too bad the vet can’t come to you! When Joey dog passed, Chester kept looking for him in all his favorite places. After a while, he stopped looking as much. He’s so spoiled now being the only dog. Macy is so cute taking care of Rudee!

We heard some fireworks on NYE, but they were far away in the City and no bother to us!

    • That’s what happened to me when Khia passed away. I used to run to the door and look out the windows waiting for her. Mom doesn’t want Macy to go through that. It was awful. I was super spoiled until they decided I needed a friend – Macy – which I didn’t. I was quite content being the only child. *sigh*

  6. Farewell Rudee…..you knew love at your house that’s for sure and you were lucky to have such a wonderful last week with your family. We hope the adjustment to your absence isn’t too awful for the others…..but we know you will be a happy and healthy pup again over the Bridge.

    Love, Teddy

  8. Best of luck to your parents with this difficult task. But when you do everything for your furbabies that you can in their lives, this is the last thing they need you to do – as tough as it is, you do it. Prayers for your family to get through this time. After this there’s nowhere to go but up in 2018. I’m nervous for Macy and Molly, and I hope that careful supervision is enough. Stay safe N.

    • Hi Cupcake. You are so very right (as usual). We are hoping that all of the bad just maxed itself out and only good lays ahead. Mom is still very nervous about letting the 2 of them out together. Right now, Macy’s in the bedroom behind a gate and Molly’s in the living room. Mom and Dad are only letting them be together for short periods of time for right now. I’ll do my best to just stay away from both of them. *ear licks*

  10. I’m so sorry about Rudee. Macy tried so hard to take good care of him and give him all the love he needs to move on to the next step of his journey with a full tank. I hope she can take comfort in that.

I think I missed something about Molly and Macy….
We all hate, hate, hate cancer…it is a thief and a destroyer and sometimes there is just no stopping it. You are giving the hardest gift of all to Rudee. I’ll be thinking about you all and praying for you. May your year only get better from here. Lots of love, Amy

    • Hi Mom #2. Did you forget that Molly and Macy had to be kept separate because they were fighting all the time and drawing blood? Remember when Mom was trying to rehome Molly? Cancer is the worst. We hate it so so so much. We know Rudee is better off now. We really do. My poor sister, though. She’s going to miss him so much 😦

Yes, I had forgotten that. But I do remember your Mom trying to re-home Molly. And Rudee. Has that fighting stopped? Poor girl. Maybe you can help her, Noodle. You have a good heart. Mom #2

  13. So very sorry to hear about Rudee’s decline. Please give me a nice ear scratch from us. Sam and Elsa send oodles of poodles love to you all. ❤︎ I know what you’re going through, my grand dog is crossing the Rainbow Bridge today. Maybe Rudee will get the chance to run with Aria, a lovely Irish Wolfhound. {sniffle} Sam and I will especially miss that big dawg. She was quite the pal for Sam.

All dogs go to heaven to be with their friends, old and new. As hard as it is to say goodbye, we know it is for the best. It rips your heart to bits when this has to be done. Warm hugs and licks back to you and your family for being such great guardians/pawrents. We will light a heart candle for Rudee.
NY eve was uneventful here in the Midwest as it was negative 35 without the wind chill. Today was a balmy minus 5. Molly and her crown gave mom the giggles. You guys are a hoot.
Warm hugs from us again. God bless……..

    • Thank you so much for those words. They really mean a lot. Molly is happy to have given your mom a giggle fit. -35?!?!? That’s RIDICULOUS! Do you guys go outside in that?

Why yes, we do. Have to go to work, etc. But NY eve we stayed hunkered down at home. When mom and dad let us out, they come with us in the yard to make sure we just do our business and come back in. Sometimes our legs cramp up and they have to carry us in.We haven’t had cold like this for a loooong time so I guess we are due.

Our neighbors are still shooting off firecrackers. The guys were tranquilized for NY eve, but it really didn’t help very much. We are so sorry about Rudee. As usual, your parents did the best that they could do to keep the family together
