Which do you prefer – wordpress or blogspot or blogger?
What are the pros/cons of your preferred blog?
We currently use the free wordpress.com blog and are almost out of space – eek! Mom doesn’t know if she should switch to wordpress.org, blogspot, blogger, self-hosting, maybe writing from space?
Some of the things we like about wordpress:
- The “reader”: Being able to skim the blogs we follow and click like or comment right from the reader.
- Does blogspot have something comparable?
- If so, does it allow you to follow wordpress blogs as well?
- Does blogspot have something comparable?
- In the reader, if someone is on wordpress, we can see their whole post. If they’re on blogspot, we have to go to their actual blog to read it.
- We can type out email addresses (noodle4president@gmail.com) whereas we see bloggers on blogspot having to type noodle4president at gmail dot com (why?)
- My whole blog is on here.
- Can it be transferred?
- If so, can someone guide Mom if we choose to move?
- Can it be transferred?
- We can see “stats” for the blog.
- It’s user-friendly.
Thanks in advance!
We are sorry to not be able to help. Mom doesn’t blog….she just reads several. If you do move, please let us know so we can continue to follow your crazy, loving life!!!

I love WordPress and prefer it (easy to use, lots of options without having to know computer-ese, stats, etc.). I think you can ‘buy’ more space from them which would make it easier than starting from a new platform and trying to move your site. Good luck with whichever decision you make!

Tried Blogger when I first started blogging, it was a complete disaster. Then I found WP and that was that. 😉

I have a blog on each. My cat blog is on Blogger. I find Blogger to be much more user-friendly than WordPress. Maybe I am just used to it more. Dakota’s blog is on WordPress. I can follow people on both formats. I just have a MUCH harder time adding widgets and all with wordpress. Feel free to email me if you have any questions I can help with! My email is cgittleman at mi dot rr dot com.

I cannot offer a comparative opinion because I have only used WP however, the only (literally) complaint I have with WP are the questionable stats. I am using the free “model’ and love what can be done with it…. especially as reader appeal generally dictates some level of visual simplicity. As/when I am up to capacity with data, my first choice will be to look at the cost to simply increase my allocation.

I find I don’t visit the Blogger blogs as much as the WordPress ones, because I don’t get notifications if someone responds to my comments there (I know I can get emails, but tI get too many if I sign up to follow a popular thread and it isn’t worth it).

We have had blogs on Blogger and WordPress. We have tried Blogger several times and every time ended back up on WordPress. We are now on the premium WordPress which is $99.00 a year. We had so many issues with Blogger that we have decided to stay with WordPress and to us it is worth the yearly fee. It is so much easier for us to follow and comment on WordPress blogs. We know you can export your blog from Blogger to WordPress and you can also export your blog from Wordress. We are not sure but we think Blogger has a limit too before you have to purchase more space. Hope this has been of some help to you. Hugs

You are using the free WordPress.org right now. If you switch to the $99 per year WordPress.com that I use, all your current blogs, media files, etc. automatically goes with you. I personally love wordpress. I got an email that they also have a wordpress.blog platform available now, which is really cool. Why don’t you google that? Oh, and I have the same trouble following Blogger sites and comment replies.

I don’t know if we’re going to do the $99/year or the $2.99/month. We have to research the difference.

I too prefer wordpress. Are you out of space for pictures? I’m not even sure text is limited… You could make a ‘Noodle Archive’ — you can have more than one free WP site, after all–and move old posts there, link to it from the active blog. A lot of work is all it costs. Another option for images is to use a free image hosting site like photobucket. It’s easy to upload photos there and link them to your blog–but it is not as comfortable as just using the image feature of wordpress. I edit most of my posts in html view anyway, so for me using the pictures actual links instead on clicking on them is fairly easy, but if you’re not comfortable with that, it take a bit getting used to.

Except for the inability to use plug ins on WordPress.com (the implications of which which I failed to understand at the time), my extensive research before I began 5 years ago, led to WordPress as THE choice at the time.
How about a second WordPress blog – like NoodleToo – with a link from #1 to facilitate a gradual migration? Is that possible? I know you can have more than one WordPress blog, but I’m not sure if the limits remain the same or if you get to start again.
I can say that I don’t follow many non-WordPress blogs personally, because I have to jump through more hoops to comment, I can’t “like” easily, etc. (and I don’t get notifications except by email – and I already get waaay too much of that). So although your readers will be ABLE to follow you wherever you go, you might find that it could take a while to get them in the habit of doing it (and you might lose a few).
I also run across waaaay too many ads that freeze my browser on other domains, whatever that says about format. btw- How much notice did you get about the need to do something about limits? How did you find out?

mgh

We agree about the jumping through hoops. Starting a 2nd one is a great idea! When I look at my media library, it tells me how much space I’ve used. Right now I’m at 2.0 gb out of 3. I’m just researching my options before I run out of space 🙂
