Having just finished 7 weeks of Obedience School, I have made a total of 14 car trips in those 7 weeks (2 each Saturday), plus a bonus 2 rides last Sunday. Mom and Dad say that I’m getting better but there’s still a lot of work ahead.
Mom, please don’t put up the videos.
Mom: Noodle, I told you I was going to if you didn’t settle down.
*groan*
Okay, Mom took video last weekend of me in the car. Remember, this is me doing better!
On the way home, I slept in the grandbaby’s car seat:
Moving right along, I’ll now put Macy and Molly on blast. Those girls have been BAD! Really bad!
Last Saturday, they got into a huge fight. Macy is tired of Molly’s bullying and she tore Molly up. Each of them was bleeding in the end, Molly worse though as Macy has all of her teeth. Nothing that required stitches. Just a bunch of punctures that Mom shaved the fur around, flushed out with chlorhexadine, and packed with triple antibiotic.
On Tuesday, it happened again. At first, Macy turned to get away from Molly but when Molly went back for seconds, Macy lost her mind and turned psycho. Again, more blood, including Dad’s this time as he tried to break them up. Still, no stitches for anyone.
Since that fight, Macy and Molly have been separated. Each takes turns going from the bedroom to the living room/rest of the house.
Now, not only is it a pain for Mom and Dad because they have to keep the girls separated but it’s a pain for me because Macy is bursting with energy. She doesn’t have Molly to play with and you KNOW I refuse to play with her. So, we’ve been having to listen to her howl….and howl….and howl. It’s truly ridiculous.
And what’s better than a dog full of energy? A dog that’s supposed to be on restricted activity!
Yesterday Macy went to the vet for her annual check up, vaccines, and to have her “wonky” legs looked at. Here’s what her gait (Cool word, huh? Mom taught me that word!) looks like:
It’s a bit hard to see in this video but Macy is very bow-legged in the rear, favors her left leg, often stands on her tip toes on her right leg, and sometimes drags her feet.
The vet doesn’t believe it’s her hips but rather a ligament in her right knee. He said there shouldn’t be any “play” in that ligament and there is. Rather than jump into surgery or other tests which he doesn’t think are necessary right now, Macy is supposed to be resting (HA!) and taking anti-inflammatories for the next 10 days plus a joint supplement.
When Mom voiced her concerns over the “restricted activity” he said that she should try natural sedatives as Macy can eventually rupture the ligament if it doesn’t have a chance to heal. Then, surgery would be necessary and the surgery would fail entirely if she wasn’t quiet and resting afterward.
Yeah….keeping Macy calm and quiet. That’s like telling a fish it can’t go into water.
Wish us luck!!!
Congratulations on graduating obedience school. Sorry to hear about the girls fighting at your house.

First of all, ligament rest. That is the real deal!! Mom’s old dog had to rest to avoid surgery and she was a ROCKET. The doctor told Mom to keep her in the crate and ALWAYS on a leash even in the house till she healed. And guess what. It was TOUGH, but she healed and never had to have the surgery and had a long, happy life. Second of all, N, the car. OMG. You stand exactly where I stand in the car. Even though you cried a little (a lot), you were very brave. When I first came here, Mom’s shoulder was chapped after each car ride from all the licking. I got used to it, though, and now I just give her an occasional lick to say thanks for not leaving me at home.
Love and licks,
Cupcake

Noodle, honey, does your Mom’s driving scare you that much? You did a great job driving last year on Valentine’s Day when you picked me up in your rented convertible! And poor Macy with her knee. Mom just ordered me a knee brace for my right knee. She said to tell your Mom to look on the internet, and they are priced from about $35 to about $800. (Mom is trying the cheapo one…hurumph.)

I think I’m just better being a driver than a passenger. You’re getting a brace?! I hope you’ll post pictures. Mom said she would try the cheap one first too. *Sigh*

Yikes, sorry to hear about the fights 😦
Our foster girl has bowed front legs, but I think it’s a genetic thing with her, as it’s most common in Dachshunds and she’s half Dach. I finally got through to her medical files via our vets (after ringing the owner lots as she needed to give the vets consent) and there’s nothing on the system in regards to Pixie’s wonky legs ever needing any treatment.
When we had to do restricted activity we found attaching a lead to something worked well – one end on the TV stand, other end on the dog. Gives them a little room, but not enough to go crazy…although knowing Macy she’d either go crazy regardless or drag the TV stand along behind her!!!
Frozen Kongs, carrots and apples are good for long-lasting chewy foods, but again Macy might fling them about and chase after them hahaha.

It’s possible that they might’ve established alpha but mom’s scared to test it right now. When they are allowed out together there will definitely be leads.

Congrats on completely obedience. Too bad your sisters are being fussy with each other. Can Macy go swimming? It would give her exercise but be easy on the hip and knee. Maybe some lavender will help calm the girls down. Good luck being the ringmaster at the circus, Noodle! 🙂

Yes, Macy actually swam on Friday. Crazy girl. Who likes water?! Mom said thanks for the idea. She’s going to get lavender tarts for the wax warmer!

Poor Macy, we had to give Ziva lots of rest when she injured herself over a year ago. Glucosamine supplements, muscle building, and not over exercising helped her AFTER she healed up.

Macy is driving us crazy right now. She has so much energy built up inside of her.

We feel your pain sweet Noodle. It is not easy to be caught between the two girls. Maybe Composure will work for them. I had ,mixed results with it ,but it might be worth a try. I got it on Amazon Prime for about $20 less than the vet.

Hi Noodle,
Crating, Kongs with peanut better or spray cheese and nylabones are all good things that might help Macy stay quiet and busy so she can heal.
I’m sorry the girls are being cranky, maybe this will clear the air and things will be better.
Tell Mom and Dad to hang in there.

Hi, Ms. Margret! Those are all great ideas. Last night, Mom gave Macy a nylabone and she chewed it until her gums started bleeding 😯 Mom said she’s going to order a kong online tonight! *ear licks* Noodle

A natural nutcase you mean! It was scary in the car. I just don’t like leaving the house. On the way home is much more better.
Those manly things sounds A-MAZING! I’m packing my bag right now. I only need 1 bag: to hold my bowl, my food, my raccoon, and a picture of Mom and Dad.
Macy does NOT have an off button. Even in her sleep she’s wiggly and annoying.
Glad to see you back in blogville.

The girls drew blood from each other, not very ladylike! We won’t talk about you in the car Noodle. Car rides terrify us so we understand. Thank goodness you’re back home again.
