Hi, friends!
What a day! Poor Macy got a raw deal. Not only did she have her planned TPLO surgery to repair her torn ACL but she also had to have a meniscus repair on her right leg AND she has pyoderma – a bacterial skin infection.
Here’s what I heard Mom saying: dogs (and people) that tear their ACL have a 50% chance of rupturing their other ACL, and they have a 10% chance of tearing the meniscus after an ACL injury. The surgeon herself tore her ACL and shortly after her recovery, she tore her meniscus. Yikes!
Since Macy ended up having surgery on her right leg, the surgeon was able to remove the plate and screws from the last surgery. For her left ACL repair, the surgeon used an antimicrobial plate. The one she used previously on Macy’s right leg was just a standard plate (pics at the end). Her incisions don’t look as good as they did last time. Now she’s going to be a franken-puppy.
Anywho, Macy is on Cephalexin (antibiotic) for the next 21 days to prevent infection at the surgical sites and to clear up the pyoderma. She’s also on gabapentin and tramadol (pain relievers), plus her normal Previcoxx (anti-inflammatory) and joint supplements.
Right now she’s still super out of it. She won’t lay down. She keeps sitting with her legs straight out. She did fall asleep a couple of times but for the most part she’s fighting it. Mom won’t let me be on guard until bed time because the top of Macy’s kennel is off for right now and she doesn’t want me sneaking in there and licking her incisions. I would like to make it public record that I did give Macy to kisses on the nose when she got home. I’m not a monster you know!

I’m glad Macy is home. I teared up when I saw mom in the crate with her because that exactly where I knew she would be. I hope Macy gives in soon and allows herself to sleep. Tomorrow is another day and one day closer to full recovery. Love and continued prayers. ~ Mrs. Margret

Mom is always uncomfortable for our comfort. She has layed on tile floor with me while I was sick and with Jamison. She says it’s her job. I think that’s a stinky job to have but I’m glad it’s hers. *ear licks*

Noodle, it’s good you and your Mom can look at all that without fainting,since you (well, your Mom) will have to take care of Macy. You would think with those pain pills that she would have passed out (I would have). But then, I guess it can be scary to go to sleep when you wake up all shaved and cut… Yikes! Love to you all. ❤

These incisions made Mom feel terrible for Macy. The last one was so clean and perfect. These are franken-puppy scars! Macy is resistant to anything that should calm her down. I’m surprised anesthesia works on her. You make a very good point about going to sleep and then BAM! Shaved and cut. You’re so smart 🙂 *ear licks*

Hi BFF! Those incisions were very hard to look at. Mom can’t understand why they look so bad this time. The same doctor did the surgery. All Mom can figure is that maybe the doctor got tired and didn’t take as much time to suture. Thanks for the POTP. Macy sends stinky girl kisses to you (sorry). *ear licks*

Nope! Keeping it open and letting air get to it. Mom wishes they bandaged it. Then Macy wouldn’t have to wear a cone.

OMD, my BFFFFF!!!!! Oh man! Ma couldn’t looks at the incisions cause she is a whimp, and she doesn’t wants that in her head before bed. ☺ Butts, I just knows that your most FABulous Mom is takin’ amazin’ care of you, and Noodle is keepin’ watch over you, and sendin’ good thoughts and nose licks.
