My Best Girl

Today I lost my best girl, Lexi, and earth lost a walking angel.

For the last few months, she had battled cancer and then renal failure. Through it all, she was a brave, proud schnauzer girl. My sassy queen.

If you’re new (or newer) to my blog, perhaps you don’t know the story of Lexi and me.

It all started just before Valentine’s Day 2015. I had been reading Lexi’s blog and, well, what isn’t there to love? She was an actress, a therapy dog, and a church dog. Not to mention she was very easy on the eyes.

I wanted to ask her to be my Valentine but I was VERY nervous. Luckily, my BFF, Purrince Siddhartha Henry, convinced me to give it a shot. So, I sent her a Valentine:

Her response? The best!

Noodles, in answer to your question, YES. (As long as it doesn’t mean we are married or anything.) :}

I did the happiest of happy dances. Then my nerves kicked in. It was February 3rd and I had 11 days to plan the most epic date ever.

Luckily, I pulled it off. Though, I think the bacon roses had to do with it than me.

Then, in April, I got to Skype with Lexi and we planned our next date:

The comments we got from our friends were hilarious (LOOK).

Less than a month later, we went to South Beach, Miami.

We danced the night away, her favorite thing to do.

As I’m just sharing highlights from my time with Lexi, I’ll fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2016 when I wrote this poem for my girl:

For My Lexi

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Today is one year

since I fell in love with you!

You make me so happy

Always there to calm me when I get too yappy

Brighten all my days

With your silly and loving ways

I love it when you wiggle

It always makes me giggle

I am the luckiest guy

To have you as the sun in my sky

I’ll always bring you bacon roses to eat

I know they’re your favorite treat

Just promise to love me forever

And leave me never

Little did I know that she was working her creative side as well and made me a video of her dancing JUST FOR ME! (SEE IT HERE)

In May 2016, Lexi was diagnosed with cancer. I made a personal vow to be the best boyfriend a guy could be. It was easy because she brought out the best in me.

A couple days later, we were off for our very first cruise:

As most of you know, until just last week Lexi was campaigning to be Blogville Mayor. She even asked me to be her Vice Mayor. There were “I Luv Lexi”, “Lexi 4 Mayor”, and “Vote 4 Lexi” badges floating all over Blogville. Then, one day, she sent me a one-of-a-kind badge:

She really knew how to make me feel special.

Last week, Lexi and I went on our final date (for now). We went to Disney and had SO much fun:

It may have only been a year and a half but it was the best year and a half. Lexi was so honest, quick-witted, to the point (usually to her Mom’s dismay), and smart. Beautiful is an understatement. I will miss her more than I can put into words.

Please keep Mrs. Lexi’s Mom (Amy) and Mr. Lexi’s Dad (Jeff) in your prayers. This is especially hard on Mrs. Lexi’s Mom as she and Lexi were together 24/7.

Give your family kisses and head rubs tonight. I think everyone will need some extra love.
