Everybody! Everybody! EVERYBODY!

GUESS WHAT?!??!?!?

Macy and I did it! We graduated from Basic Obedience Class!!!

Ummm, Mom? This says “Noodles”! I am only “Noodle”. No ‘S’. Does that mean I didn’t graduate?!

Luckily, Mom told me that it says Noodles just because the teacher liked to call me that and I did in fact graduate! Whew! All that hard work I put in. Thought it was for nothin’!

Secret: I almost failed. During the test, I didn’t want to do a lay down and stay. Only a 2 second lay down. Mom knelt down and said, “Noodle! Don’t you dare do this to me.” I saw the look in her eyes and then I did such a good lay down/stay that I fell asleep and was still doing it long after everyone was done and back in their seats.

Macy did perfect. No, that isn’t a typo. She really did great. Once the Gentle Leader goes on here, she transforms into a dog that listens…to everything. I wish she would wear it all the time!

This is a picture of Macy, me, and our friend, Jake, from this morning:

We were all so tired from training so hard.

On September 3rd, I’ll be starting Intermediate Class. Although Mom wants Macy to continue, it’s what she called a “financial decision”. She and Dad plan on still working with Macy at home. The reason why I have to go is because throughout basic, there were a few commands that I absolutely would not listen to until the teacher made me do it. Then I did it right every time after. Mom says Miss Terah can do magic. So, I’ll go to class so the teacher can teach me and Mom will bring home the knowledge to Dad and Macy. Hopefully it works!

Oh, by the way, check out this silly blooper:

BOL! Oh, man….

Anywho, I’ll be back tomorrow with more about what’s been up at our house but for now, I need to get some rest.

Happy Saturday!

Well done to both of you! BOL! I bet you got so many treats during and afterwards that it was worth the effort! I get really spoiled when I’m being trained so I just love it! Woof! Ray.

    • This training was without treats! Can you believe it? We worked on praise alone! The trainer said it’s because you won’t always have treats in your hand and you need your dog to listen to you just by your words. Somehow, I went along with this 🙂

Your trainer is missing out on a couple of key facts buddy! Dogs are opportunistic! This means that although we can be trained with treats, they can be withdrawn later. We are such a positive species that if we don’t get a treat this time, we know that it will probably happen next time. Your trainer (if certified) has been taught that. The other thing is just listening to words! What planet was she from buddy! You need to respond to both words and signals as you never know when you may see your mom but not be able to hear her! Also, If you are trained with hand signals, you are also trained to look at your Mom and having regular eye contact can prevent a lot of problems. BOL! Ray.

      • We add hand signals in the intermediate class. Mom was actually very happy that there were no treats involved because in the past, we didn’t listen to her if we knew she didn’t have treats in her hand. Now, we’re listening better.

The trainer did tell everyone to use treats for the “come”,”watch”, and “leave it” commands. She told everyone to use high value treats like hot dogs!!! Mmmm!

  8. Noodles, honey (te,he) Mom says he learned during our time with Freestyle that that there is supposed to be a “release” word for stay, or you don’t get up. Such as “free” or “spaghetti” or whatever your Mom picks. The correct word for just “stay there for a little while until I call you or you don’t feel like staying there anymore” is “wait.” So you did your stay perfectly!! I am very proud of you, boyfriend. >3

  10. Great Job, Noodle (and your goofy sister)! What pawsome news and I think you and your mom will be great teachers for Ms. Macy. I did the same thing when there were 3 dogs in the house and it worked. We did a little every day and before you know it, they all were (mostly) well-behaved pupsters. 🙂

My Margret said to tell your mom that after my Greg and my sister Belle and she and I went to obedience classes, My Margret and I went to more classes and came home and taught it to My Greg and my sister Belle. It works just fine.
