Good morning, friends of mine!
So many of you wrote to me wondering how bath # 3 on Sunday went.
We had very high hopes and things seemed to be going very well but Monday and Tuesday showed some setbacks.
Things got kind of hectic for me on Monday. Mom was having a bout of anxiety and I really feed off of her when she’s like that and start scratching and chewing. Also, the lawn was way overgrown and with doing my daily training sessions outside, I was attacked by pollen monsters and evil grass seed.
By yesterday I was red all over my underneath and neck. My back was fine. That’s why Mom thinks it’s the grass.
Mom made sure to put the Jax n Daisy lotion on me and that seemed to help for a bit. Luckily, it can be applied up to 5 times per day.
I’m due for another bath tonight (Remember: It’s one bath every day for 3 days in a row and then a bath every 3 days until the problem clears up).
I am also in my last day of transitioning from Nutro Lite Lamb and Rice Adult Weight Loss to Nutro Lite Chicken and Rice Adult Weight Loss. They have all the same ingredients except chicken in place of the lamb. Mom thinks I might be allergic to the lamb as my scratching got really bad about the time i switched from Natural Balance Fat Dog to Nutro Lite Lamb and Rice back in March. I always get allergy flare ups this time of year but this is exceptionally bad.
If I don’t get better with the chicken based food, Mom may switch to a grain fee diet and work her way up from there. It’s very hard because most foods are too high in calories for me. To find one that’s grain fee and low cal might cost Mom an arm and a leg if a food like that even exists.
So, what I’m saying is, I don’t attribute my still being itchy to Jax n Daisy not working. The shampoo/lotion combo can only do so much when it has other factors working against it. It is helping and I’m still going to use it.

Noodle that is a big problem with that food. we used ultima lite the whole time, but now they make it only for small breeds… the pieces are as small as such an anti-stork pill… and we have the same problem… to find food what causes no allergies and whats without grain and lite…. we should look for our thinking caps to make our own food :o)

Mom has thought about making me food like some people do but she said she can’t possibly afford that. Especially when I had that bout of Colits and was eating chicken and rice. She said I was costing her a fortune! How rude…

Wondering if a raw diet would help until things get under control. Also, changing diets too frequently may make things worse as it takes 8 to 12 weeks for the system to rid itself of the bad stuff or toxic food. Too keep switching may add to the problem. I know it may be expensive but I was told by a dermatologist at the U of I in Champaign Illinois to go to a single protein food like kangaroo, alligator (blue buffalo makes it) grain free for a minimum of 2 months. I did a raw diet by My Pet Carnivore and it was wonderful. If the grass is the issue why are you thinking it is food. I read the itchiness started when food was changed possibly lamb intolerance but also was super red from being in the grass.??? I would attack one thing at a time. Change food and stay there for 2 to 3 months. If nothing is better then switch at the same time keep him off any grass so you can get to the root of the issue. Or send in a saliva sample to Dr Dodds with Hemopet and get the exact results you want.

Hi! Thank you for stopping by and taking time to write to us. I have been on a Limited Ingredient Diet since this post was done. It only contains duck, peas, and potato. Nothing else. My problem is that I keep finding my sisters’ kibbles. I also sometimes sneak into the bird room and eat their food pellets that they’ve dropped which definitely contain grain. Mom is going to look into Dr. Dodds. She’s never heard of them before. Thanks, again! *ear licks*

My allergies were worse than ever this year too, N. So Jax n Daisy really have their work cut out for them. That’s for sure. Mom always wiped my feet off when I came inside, but this year, she completely wipes me down from nose to tail with a wet paper towel. It’s made my shedding worse, but my allergies better. She also blames grass, and she tries to tell me not to lie down and roll in it. Is she crazy??

Mom gets mad at me for rolling, too! She tells me, “How do you think that’s helping your allergies?” I try to explain that I know it doesn’t help but it feels SO good. She should try it and then she’d understand. Mom told me to tell you that wiping me down is a lovely suggestion but she can hardly get Dad to wipe my feet when they’re muddy.

Poor Noodle……sounds like your Mom is trying everything she can to help but you are miserable and that’s just no fun. Maybe it’s a combination of food and grass…..anyway, your new treatment is helping relieve your symptoms and that’s a GOOD THING!

The kids are using Purina Smartblend that is grain free . Publix had buy one,get one free on this item. They seem to like it. They seem to like everything. Their favorite is the natural Instincts Turkey and Venison by Purina. Target usually has some kind of deal on this brand. I used to buy Flint River Ranch and Sid refused to eat it.

Sophie doesn’t like the grain free. I had to go and buy her a bag of Turkey and Venison. The older two are not picky, but I try not to change food.

Did you try the human benadryl? Our vet says it is great for allergies in dogs and one of the safest to use. I am on a grain free whitefish or salmon kibble and doing well. It’s not as expensive if you can find a feed store. Mom and Dad go to “Capitol Dog Food” and they have lots of hypo allergenic and specific diet foods, costing much less than the big chains or supermarkets. Woof!

Unfortunately, I’ve built up a tolerance to benadryl and zyrtec. Mom switched my food again. Limited ingredient diet. I’ll write about it tomorrow hopefully. Be safe tomorrow! *Ear licks*

I buy the generic of benadryl at either Costco or BJ’s . I get hundreds for the price of 24 at drugstores.

How did this all turn out? My mom’s apple head chihuahua Weezy has really bad hot spots and itching and we just ordered the set of this to see if it would help. We are really hoping it helps at least a bit. Poor girl is losing her fur and is covered in red spots. Also she has patches that she’s licked raw and bleeding. I hope Noodle is doing better as well.

It turned out that Noodle had a really bad food allergy. We switched his food and the itching got much better. However, we still use the Jax n Daisy shampoo and lotion when he’s having flare ups. It’s hard to say if it helps him, though.

I know this is old but I’m getting caught up! Kobi has a chicken allergy so we know all about food allergies. Chicken is in everything! We now use 4health salmon and potato. Its not to expensive and is a tractor supply brand. It also rates 4 stars on dogfoodadvisor. They also have a grain Free option.
