Holy bad day of bad days, Batman! Saturday was a VERY bad day.

It all started when Dad was supposed to be up at 5:00 am so he could be out of the house by 6:30 am. Mom woke up and saw the clock said 6:21 am and Dad was still in bed.

Greg, wake up! You missed your alarm!

Dad got right up and was all RAWWWWWWR!

He went out into the living room and Mom heard, “OH. MY. GOD! OH. MY GOD!” Mom screamed, “What?! What’s the matter?!” Dad said, “You don’t even want to know. You would not believe what the living room looks like.”

Mom jumped out of bed and went out to find what looked to be 2 huge puddles of blood and some smaller puddles. At first, she thought Molly finally did Jamison in but as she got closer she could smell it – diarrhea. So much blood and so much diarrhea.

It was bad. Really bad.

She knew right away it was Macy because Macy hadn’t eaten her breakfast or dinner the day before. She was freaking out because Macy had eaten her tennis ball and she thought she had a blockage.

(Oh, I forgot to mention, Saturday was Day 1 of dog obedience school. So Mom was freaking out that we were going to miss the first day and be behind and we can’t afford to be behind.)

6:40 am: Mom finishes cleaning the disaster zone and the area rug goes into the dumpster because it’s done for.

Macy at this point is being normal Macy -playing and irritating me – so Mom decided she didn’t need to rush her to the emergency vet because Dr. Hamilton would be in at 8:00 am.

7:00 am: Molly is chewing her feet and won’t stop. Mom looks and they’re all red and inflammed from the licking. Mom’s quick solution: socks!

Molly was not thrilled with her fashion statement.

7:52 am: Mom and Macy arrive at the vet and they pull her right in before anyone else. Diagnosis: Colitis. That’s what I had back in March, remember?

8:30 am: Dr. Hamilton clears Macy for obedience school and says he will not give her a doctor’s note. She MUST go!

9:00 am: Mom goes outside to take care of the chickens, rabbits, and Snooter Tooter (pig). She is in the chicken pen and sees something out of the corner of her eye. It was Lonesome Dove, our polish crested chicken, hanging upside down by her foot from the fence that divides Snooter Tooter from the chickens. Mom rushes over and then sees it. A pool of blood under Dove. Dove must have been trying to un-catch herself with her other foot and Snooter Tooter took it upon himself to chew her toes.

Mom quickly unhooked her foot and brought her inside. Dove was in shock and hardly moving at all. Mom rinsed her foot and got out the styptic powder to stop the bleeding. It took a lot of powder and pressure but the bleeding finally stopped.

During this time, Mom hears a loud bang. Macy knocked the gate down to Jamison’s room. Luckily, she didn’t eat the kitty poop in the litter box. Even luckier, Molly was outside so Jamison was safe.

Mom gets Jamison’s room closed up, all the while holding dove like a baby in her left arm.

Where’s Molly? Mom would’ve liked to know too! Dad was on his way home and Molly was nowhere in sight. Mom had to get her in so Dad would be able to open the gate.

Mom circled the property 3 times with Dove in her arms  in the 90 degree muggy heat when she finally found Molly. She had knocked down a barrier and got behind the greenhouse. Mom was about to lose her mind but didn’t.

With Molly in the house, Mom got Dove settled in a chicken carrier.

5 minutes later, Dad, Mom, Macy, and me were on our way to Obedience School. 20 minutes after that, we were there.

Us dogs (all 10 of us) went in to the building 1 by 1, each getting fitted with a gentle leader and having to be sitting calmly before the next dog entered. Luckily, Mom and Dad left us in the car with the a/c on while they stood in line and held our place.

Finally, all the dogs were in and training began.

Macy was probably the best behaved in the whole group! Can you believe it?

Me? I have some work to do….

It was super hot during training and we were all very relieved when it was time to get back into the car.

The good news is that Macy is doing much better – no more diarrhea and she’s eating all of her food, and Lonesome Dove is no longer in shock and is eating and drinking. Her foot looks like it will be okay…we hope!

  1. OMGoodness, N. That was the worst Saturday ever! Yikes! I’m happy you’ve got your start at obedience school. Do you have homework to practice every day? I did when I went to school. We practiced faithfully EVERY DAY for the whole 8 weeks. I learned to be a good girl. Mom’s old dog, Smoki had colitis. It came and went the whole 16 years of her life. Mostly she was fine, but Mom was careful of what she ate.

    • Yes it was the worst EVER! I do have homework and I don’t like it. Mom said I’m not doing very good at it. Unlike Macy who seems to be a pro. The doctor thinks the tennis ball may have caused the colitis. Who can control what Macy eats…. She’s a garbage can.

  2. That was a bad day, I believe. Your mom was flying from one disaster to another. Must say that she is really a brave woman, she arranged everything so that in the evening all problems were solved. Respect!
Wishing for the whole family better days!

  9. OMD, where to begin? We had to read your post twice to take it all in. Mom feels much better about the little bits of diarrhea I have left on the rug when she wasn’t home to let me out for an hour both yesterday and today. And poor Dove -how horrible to have someone trying to eat you alive! I would be in shock too. Now Noodle, you can behave yourself better at obedience school. I am sure you are just objecting to having to be there, but believe me, you will be glad you went and will get to do much more and go more places if you understand the things they will teach you there. Please promise me you will try harder, sweet boyfriend. For me? Love, Lexi, your bestest girl. ❤

    • Our day was really bad but diarrhea is never fun to clean up. Especially on a rug. That’s why Mom threw ours out BOL! They make me wear this thing called a Gentle Leader at school and I just think that’s ridiculous. I don’t know if I’ll submit. Update on the training coming soon. Love you my bestest girl!

    • Holy crap is right! Never ever ever a quiet, peaceful moment here, Ruby. Macy said to tell you that she can’t resist their chewy goodness. Dove seems to be healing well so my paws are crossed that she can go back to the flock soon. Mom said, “Whole truck?! Yes, please!” *ear licks* Noodle and Family

  14. Truly the most horrid Saturday EVER for you guys! Sounds like somehow your Mom did NOT lose her mind and she instead managed everything just fine. Hopefully Dove’s foot will be alright, Macy will not have the horrible problem she had either and things can settle down – I think you’d like that a lot……PEACE AND QUIET!

  18. Yipes, Noodle. You guys sure know how to get the blood pumping! Sam seems to be quite sympathetic since he’s in a bout of colitis right now too. 😦 Hope Macy is feeling better, Molly’s paws too and Dove well on the way to full recovery. Hugs and ear scratches to everyone. Stay cool, ok? We’re looking forward to hearing about good progress on the obedience school front.
