I’m a little behind in posting because, as you all know, my life is full of chaos.

Last week, Dad’s grandchildren stayed with us for their spring break – Xavier (9) and Jacob (3). Between Jacob and Macy, the house was constantly going.

Molly was an angel with the boys and spent a lot of time sitting next to Jake while he would tell her “Awww you lub me! You’re a good dog.”

He spent a lot of time running from Macy, yelling at her to “Leave me alone! I not your toy.” But then she’d kiss him and he’d say, “Aww you lub me, too!”

Xavier and Macy got along great. He was really good about keeping her busy and away from Jake.

As for me, I got LOTS of good snacks. Kids drop a LOT of food!!!!

Aside from the food, though, kids are EXHAUSTING! We were all completely beat by the time they left.

Mom didn’t really get good Easter pictures, especially of me because I didn’t want to have my picture taken.

Oh, and Macy could hardly stop looking at herself in her mirror long enough to have her picture taken.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter!!!

  3. “Mirror, mirror on the ground, who’s the prettiest dog around?” He, he. Too bad they couldn’t have taken Molly home with them. Oh, Noodle, I’m in trouble again today for growling at people who walk into my office. They should know better!! (Or at least come in treat first.)

    • We’re hoping that Dad’s ex-wife will take Molly. She lost her dog almost a year ago and they’d be a perfect match.

Lexi-kins, you have to stop growling at people. Not that I’ve been doing any better. As a matter of fact, I keep getting whapped in the nose when I do it now…..but I still do it. Do you sneeze after you growl? Every time I growl, I sneeze (even without the whaps).

      • No, I get squirted by the water bottle, then I shake. Sometimes I shake just seeing Mom pick up the water bottle. But I don’t sneeze. I think I would rather sneeze. I think your growling must be more resonant than mine and it tickles your nose, silly boy! Hey, we could get together and have a growling contest.

      • Do you lift your lips when you growl? I show ALLLLLLL of my teeth when I growl. Mom tells me I look like a gremlin. Oh, for our contest, we can both growl at Macy!!!

        Liked by 1 person

      • No, it is more of a low growl from the back of my throat. Lips up would mean I was really going to bite someone, which I am not. I bet you look really, really scary when you growl. Have you ever bit anyone? Yes, let’s practice on Macy great idea!

      • I bite Macy all the time and because I’m usually hiding by Mom, she ends up getting caught in the crossfire. Then I really get in trouble.

Hi Lexi and Noodle – Get your Mums and Dads to read this comment!

Growling is a dog’s natural warning that something does not please him. If you take away his freedom to growl, his next action will most likely be to bite… which is what he would probably do anyway if the growl did not resolve the problem. Ray had a lot of behavioral issues for which we talked to a behaviorist and various trainers. Ray was a little more complex because he did not growl (he does now I am pleased to say) They were all adamant that you should never reprimand a dog for growling (for the above reasons).

It’s the same logic and punishing a dog for barking, and then wondering why he didn’t warn you of an intruder!

It’s the same logic as sending him to his crate as punishment, and then wondering why he never goes into his crate voluntarily.

So what do you do? You identify why he is growling and address that issue. He needs to learn that whatever he was concerned about is not a threat to him. Have fun. 🙂

        Hi Colin –

You bring up very good points. Now do you have suggestions to prove to Noodle that Macy is not a threat (mostly)? This is not fun LOL!

You find what motivates Noodle and give him lots of it whenever he sees Macy. He must associate good things happening when Macy is around.

We had exactly that problem with Ray and ALL dogs and people. He perceived them all as threats. We went through a Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) program.

The trick is to identify Noodles body language because you must treat him WHEN he sees Macy, but BEFORE he tenses up and gets ready to react. If you are late with the treat… you just rewarded his bad behavior!

With Ray, the trainer identified a very slight turn of his head towards us. Her explanation was that he was looking to us for direction and, in the absence of any, was going to take control.

        Hope that helps. Regards. Colin.

      • Thanks, Colin. That all makes so much sense. I will go into St. Luke with treats in hand, and give Lexi one every time she spots a child or sees someone coming into “her” office. I know the triggers.and will try to beat her to the punch. 🙂 Hoping to come back with a good report in a few months (or less). Amy

        Thanks Colin. More treats! Lexi

Hi Amy – I obviously don’t know Lexi but, as a general rule, always be very cautious when kids are involved. They move quickly; erratically; noisily, and have no concept of a dog’s view of the world. For example: Dogs do not hug each other… but kids will often want to hug (Ray looks like a big cuddly teddy to them). Sadly, when a child annoys a dog, and the dog reacts instinctively, it is considered the dog’s fault! We will never let any child near Ray unless we are guiding and supervising the interaction. There is just too much at stake.

Oh my Margret wants to know how your mom was able to have all those eggs around you, Molly and Macy and you guys didn’t crunch them…I’m telling you right now we wouldn’t have been able to not crunch them if they were here, come to think of it there were some here but we didn’t get any of them. • Hi Bonnie Pup! Mom has to buy a new SD Card for her phone once a year because instead of putting the pics on different SD Cards, she likes to keep them ALL on her phone at all times. She’s up to a 32 GB SD Card and it’s almost full. Over 5k photos. Ridiculous!

We were so tired that no one felt like crunching. They were only out for like 5 mins and Mom was right there making sure we were good. *ear licks* Noodle

The Scotties are not fond of children for some reason. Drew had issues with her first owner’s son and I think that she passed to fear on to Sid.The two girls feel the same way. They have never really been in contact with any children. It might be their high pitched voices.

    • Mom was scared it was going to be bad but I think it worked out good because Molly likes to protect things and having Jake here gave her a job to do. It’s safe to say Macy’s not good with kids…not out of aggression but she’s just to rough when she plays.

P.S. Paws crossed Molly will be able to permanently go with your Dad’s ex. ❤
