Howdy, friends!

I would like to wish all of our Mom’s a belated Happy Mother’s Day.

I got my Mom a super cool card:

I spent Sunday being the best son a mom could hope for. Well, after I woke Mom at 7:20. What can I say, I’m not perfect.

Anywho, we woke up, ate breakfast, and headed out to the flea market to see Dad. We only stayed for a tiny bit because Mom didn’t want to be there but is really trying to get me used to being in the car. Going to the flea market is a 20 minute ride each way.

Mom was really sad yesterday. She told Dad it was the first Mother’s Day where she felt incomplete. As most of you know, Mom doesn’t have human children. She never felt inadequate as a woman before because her heart has always been full of love for Mya, Khia, Jamison, myself, and all the other animals in our house. This year, Mom felt really lonely and hurt. She said she was surprised by the hurt and loss she felt. It’s just like if it were human children that passed…she can have more dogs, but they’ll never replace the ones that are gone.

I worked REALLY hard to cheer her up. I mean REALLY hard. You will never guess what I did for her….

I WENT SWIMMING!!!!

Notice my smile fading as I get closer to the water???

I hated EVERY single second of it but boy did it make Mom happy for the 15 minutes we were in the pool. The things we do for our parents.

To make matters worse, I had to have a bath right after because of the chlorine in the pool. Ugh!

After that we were all exhausted and took a long, wonderful nap. We slept right until dinner time!

Sleeping. That brings up an interesting issue. Ever since Khia….left (I can’t say the other word), I have nightmares almost every night. Mom and Dad know it’s different than my typical dreaming because lately I cry and howl. I don’t even howl while I’m awake! Mom hung up a dream catcher but it’s not working. I don’t sleep alone – I curl up with Mom or Dad. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate your input.

Finally, you might recall Jamison’s incident from the other day. Mom did some research and one of the common causes that she came across for poop outside of the litter box  was constipation. Yesterday she was in the bathroom where Jamison’s litter box is and he came in to do his business. Sure enough, it seems he is constipated. He was struggling to go and when he finally did go, it was small little pieces. Although he’s mean and untrustworthy, I hate to see him suffer. Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue?

Well, I have to go get ready for Mom to come home from work. It’s my favorite time of day! Talk to you all soon!

  1. Noodle, you are a real trooper. I know you love your Mom a whole lot! Oh, and tell her to try hair ball medicine for Jamison. That will probably take care of the problem, so says my Mom. Personally, I have no experience in this. Do NOT use Vaseline.

I thought that I was one of the few people that got cards from their fur children. I am glad that your mom got one too. The Scotties hate the water and feel your pain about the pool. None of them like the water. I haven’t tried Sophie in the pool yet. She is too scary to begin with and I can’t imagine her going in the water. We don’t know anything about cats. SORRY.

    • There are staring to be more and more cards from the dog and from the cat available for every holiday. It’s nice for a family like ours. I wish my mom didn’t believe in water torture.

  6. Noodle, that was very brave of you to go swimming to cheer your mom up. I cannot imagine getting a pool because I hate getting wet.
I don’t have any advice about your nightmares, but I hope you figure something out.

You were SO brave, N – swimming AND taking a bath! That is true love. I think the nightmares will go away on their own. If I have a bad dream, Mom cuddles me and says the word, “It’s OK. Nobody is going to hurt you.” She says the same words over and over. That helps soothe me.

    Love and licks,

  8. Noodle, what a day you had!. I’m definitely a non water cat. So I know where you’re coming from friend. I think you did very well staying in the water for 15 minutes.

My sis gets nightmares at times…not often anymore. Mom has her favourite toy on the bed for her and if she wakes crying, mom gets up and sits talking to her….sometimes she sings to Kali and Kali goes off to sleep. I have seen mom put her extra nightie around Kali so Kali can sniff it during the night.

We have never dealt with a constipation problem. It’s always been the diaherra problem. I’m wondering if our solution would work for both. Mom uses pumpkin on Kali when she is in the state…like a pumpkin pie filling but with just the pumpkin. I did hear that nutmeg works as a poison on cats…not sure about dogs. It tastes good so Kali licks it off mom’s fingers. It’s worth looking up to see if it just works to keep one on track.

  9. Noodle, I totally understand what your mom is going through. This was my first Mother’s Day without Rocky. It was the first time in 15 years my babies (Niko & Rocky) weren’t with me. It was hard. I cried. I let myself feel the grief for a little bit then remembered that I’m Jacques’ mommy too & Jacques was there celebrating the day with me. As hard as it was, I put on a smile & went on with my day. It sounds like your mom did too – she did a GREAT JOB!!! And you did too by helping her!! Good boy, Noodle! Good boy!

    • I’m sorry you had to feel that pain too. I wish Jacques or I could make your pain go away 😥

      • Thank you so much, Noodle. Reading your blog puts a smile on my face. That helps a lot. I try to have an adventure every day in honor of Rocky. He loved going, doing, and seeing, so that is what I try to do. And Jacques helps too. Just having him by my side makes me happy and helps to ease the pain. I am sure you do the same for your mom. Love and puppy power to you and your beautiful family!

  12. Awww Noodle, how fangtastic is that card that you got your mom!! Our mom and dada don’t have any hooman children either, so mom also struggles with Mother’s Day and Christmas; she tries not to show it butt we can tell and so we do our best to fill that gap in her and dada’s life and from what we can tell, we think we’re doing a pretty good job.

Now about Jamison’s “issue”, our sister cats also suffer from constipation from time to time. Our vets and pet stores here in South Africa sell an over-the-counter gel/paste called Laxapet – it’s a laxative for cats and dogs – and mom gives them each a good dollop once a week, which they love because it actually tastes really good. We’ve also read that butter (we’re not sure of the dosage – you can Google it) is a “natural softener” for cats. Good luck Jamison – we hope your poop…eases (?)

Noodle, you did great. I’m sure your mum will be so proud and happy to have you.

Mikka has these incidents, too, from time to time. We make certain that he drinkes enough–he doesn’t get dry kibble, and always some additional water on his soft food. I’ve heard people give sardines in oil for hairballs but haen’t tried that. Mikka usually has trouble after eating (gulping down) a mouse. Vet says that’s normal. So far, we didn’t have to give medication or anything. I’ve put a bit of vegetable oil on his food after a mouse incident, too. Mikka is on the thin side, so no weight problem there. Otherwise, if you have to watch his weight, a bit of mineral oil on the food should work well, too. That was a suggestions of the vet for our first dog after major surgery where he wasn’t supposed to strain. It worked very well. Hereabouts you get mineral oil at pharmacies.

    • Thank you for all of this wonderful information. We think that maybe he hasn’t been drinking enough. Maybe he needs to start getting some wet food. Jamison is skinny as a rail but the vet says he’s perfectly fine so the oil won’t be a detriment to him. Thanks again!

    • Bit him in his bum. LOLOLOL. you might be right my friend. I will have mom check on the things you’ve suggested. We’re also going to burn some sage around the dream catcher. Mom thinks it’s clogged because she’s had it since she was a little girl. She thought about taking it outside and shaking it but she’s scared to let some of those nightmares loose. *ear licks*

We’re going to try lavender essential oil like Sam’s mom suggested 😀

  18. Good for you taking a plunge in the pool! You might get to like it when it gets SUPER hot! As for the nightmares….maybe they will go away in time…..you’re still missing those who have gone to the Bridge I bet. As for Jamieson – if he doesn’t poop soon, time for the vet I should think. I can tell you something that has lots of fiber in it and is yummy and it MIGHT work (I have it with my crushed medication EVERY morning and love it) – sweet potato baby food. Yep – works in “that department” like a charm too!

    Hugs, Sammy

    • I think you’re right about the nightmares. Mom said she’s going to try the sweet potatoes. Hopefully he’ll eat it. That weird cat only likes salty, unhealthy human food like popcorn and cheez-its. Thanks again!

  19. Adorable pics of you and your family, Noodle. You and Sam must be brothers from another mother cuz he hates water too. As for the nightmares, have your mom try some lavender essential oil. It’s very calming and helps you get restful sleep. It conks Sam out. Paws crossed you get Jamison all squared away. Don’t know anything about felines but the hairball idea makes sense. Good luck.
