Some of you may remember from the beginning of my blog that Mya lived with us only 1/2 of the week (Thursday evening – Monday morning). The other half, she lived with my grandpa (Mom’s dad).

A couple weeks ago Grandpa started having bouts of dizziness which led to some falls. Mya, for the last couple months, has been having sugar highs/lows like nobody’s business. Grandpa isn’t able to test Mya’s sugar levels (it’s fairly difficult to learn to do). The 2 situations together could have proved disastrous. Mom, Dad, and Grandpa made a major decision – Mya came to live with us full-time.

It has been an adjustment for all of us. Mom hasn’t slept through the night in 3 weeks. Mya – being 14, blind, and diabetic- goes to the bathroom multiple times throughout the night. She wears diapers 24/7 but for some reason, only at night she refuses to pee in her diaper. There have also been the instances of 5 am sugar crashes here and there. Mom is tired….very tired. BUT she says she loves having her baby girl all the time now. It’s about adjusting.

Dad has had to be more aware of what Mya is up to. Mom works full-time and Dad is home with us. He’s working on learning Mya’s different behaviors: when she has to go out, when her sugar levels are off, and just being on alert. He’s been helping Mom a lot more than he used to when Mya was only here on the weekend.

Khia’s adjustment merely revolves around where she sleeps on the bed. Mya is a mini dachshund. She’s pretty small, yet somehow, she can take up the whole center of the bed! Khia typically sleeps in the center of the bed. So some nights, Khia has to compromise and sleep somewhere else. Still on the bed of course!

And me? This is a difficult change…very difficult. Everything used to be all about me. Now it’s Mya 1st and then me. Mom says it has nothing to do with how much she loves me but the fact that Mya relies on her more to survive.

Between Mya keeping Mom up at night and the time change, Mom’s exhaustion has reached a whole new level. This level eliminates love-on-Noodle time. I have been so sad. Luckily, I have my Dad and Khia.

Last night, Mom looked over and I was nestled in behind Dad’s legs on the couch. She told Dad that she couldn’t remember the last time she got to cuddle with me and that she missed me so much. With that she held out her arms and Dad picked me up and brought me over to her on the other couch. I almost cried. Mom almost cried. We snuggled for an hour. Just the two of us. In that hour, I think she gave me more kisses than she has in the whole last year (and I get kissed A LOT!). If it hadn’t been so late, I just know we would’ve snuggled longer but Mom had to get her lunch ready and take a shower.

So if you have been wondering why I haven’t been blogging as regularly as I used to and why my replies to your comments have been short, now you know. Everything has been chaotic and, quite frankly, I haven’t been doing anything because my adventure buddy (Mom) has been too busy/tired. Hopefully, that will be changing soon. Hey, at least it’s Thursday and that means Mom’s weekend starts tonight. Maybe I can claim her all to myself 🙂

Hi Noodly Schmoodly buddy. Hang in there ‘cos it will all work out in the end. You’re very lucky to have such caring people to live with and you know that you won’t be neglected. Just snuggle up to your Dad as often as you want. Your Mom just needs time to adjust to the new routines, and I bet you’re happy that little Mya is being cared for aren’t you! Woof! Ray.

Noodles we understand completely, you would not believe how LIFE and CHANGES have taken our house by storm many times since we came to live wif our mom and dad. but I promise you things do settle down and sometimes the old normal goes away and you will live in a new normal. For right now know though that your momma loves you so very much, and your daddy is always there for you. Hang tough buddy!

Your mom and dad are such loving, caring people to take care of Mya so well. They still love and care about you just as much, and you’ll get all the cuddles back again once everyone gets used to Mya’s routine and needs. And I’m sure Mya appreciates all your patience too. 🙂

  5. Noodle, I know your mom loves you very very much… and I’m glad you had this Noodle&Mom-hour together. It’s great what your parents do and I wish I could help or support your momma, that she would have a little more time for you or for herself… If you need me, I’m there and maybe I can send you some virtual Weimaraner hugs and cuddles?
btw: Hell-mut the tortoise is back from hibernation, my mom is relieved now, she thought something is wrong that he slept such a long time….

    • Hmmm, Weimaraner hugs and cuddles sound pretty cool. I mean you do look really soft and warm like my mom. Not that you look like her. Wait a second. You know what I mean….right?

Welcome back Hell-mut!!! He must’ve been getting ready for some serious adventures. Or recovering from really good adventures!

  6. Noodle honey, give me a moment, my eyes are watering.
It is hard when it is not all about us. From experience I will tell you to get your loving where you can and be ready to do therapy when needed. ♥

  7. I’m sorry you’ve been so sad, Noodle. It’s hard to share sometimes, but it sounds like Mya needs some special attention right now. She’s going through a really ruff time. Luckily your mom and dad have plenty of love, cuddles, and kisses to go around. You may just have to get a few more of those from your dad for a little bit. And, I promise, your mom will more than make it up to you just as soon as she can!

    • Being the youngest, I’ve never really had to share before. I surely don’t envy Mya for what she’s going through. I hope I never get diabetes…do you know she can’t have ANY treats???? It’s terrible. On top of that, she can’t chase lizards anymore. I don’t chase lizards but I do chase squirrels and I can’t imagine not being able to do that.

  9. We’re sending some POTP and hugs for you, Mya AND your family. That really is a HUGE adjustment for everybody…….poor little girl – hard to imagine being blind but with your family’s help I’m sure she’s as happy as she can be. Maybe things will settle once everyone gets into a routine with her being there all the time and you’ll begin to get your fair share of “Noodle Time” with your humans again!

    Hugs, Sammy

You are lucky to have such a thoughtful mom. It is hard to divide your attention between so many people and dogs. Just remember that she loves you.

  13. Change involves challenges, but I’m sure you’re all up for it. Must be weird for Mya too. Keep smiling and things will get better for all hopefully soon. In the meantime, cherish those snuggle times, even if they are few and far between. They mean the world to snuggler and snugglee. ❤
