It’s been 5 whole days since I last wrote anything! My game’s been a bit off this week. I don’t know why or what’s wrong with me but I haven’t been my usual peppy, adventurous self. Actually, Mom says I’ve been quite bad – unusually defiant.

It all started on Monday. My Grandpa (Dad’s dad) came over. Grandpa has a routine with us. When he gets here, Khia and I go crazy because he brings bag of treats with him that he keeps in his pocket. He comes in, sits down and we get treat after treat after treat. 3 years late, Mom has given up the battle of trying to get him to stop giving me treats. Anyway, on this particular visit, Grandpa pulled in the driveway and popped the “trunk” door of his van to get some plants out to give to Dad. Before he took the plants out, though, he and Dad went to sit and chat on the patio. After I got my 8 million treats that he was carrying in his pocket, I was off to explore the van. No one realized I was missing…that is until I came back and was as round as the moon. Why was I round you ask? Well, Grandpa had a bag of Pup-peroni treats in the van. Not just any bag…the bulk, humongoid bag and it was half-full. That is, until I ate the entire stash. I got in big trouble, guys. But the trouble was nowhere near as bad as the pain from eating so many Pup-peroni sticks. This happened around noon. Mom got home from work around 7 and after her initial shock of seeing me looking like a balloon with twig legs, she started to get really worried. My belly was hard as a rock. I never threw up though. I just didn’t move very much, if at all, the whole night.

From there, everything just went downhill this week. I haven’t been listening to anything Mom and Dad say. I sit defiantly by the steps when they tell me to come inside. I won’t go in the house when Mom tells me to if I’m in the bird room with her. Which brings up the fact that I run out the door to get into the bird room when I’m not supposed to.

Honestly, I think I have a problem. I’m heavier than I have ever been in my whole life and I think it’s making me grumpy. Aside from my indulgence on Monday, treats have completely been eliminated from my diet and I am still gaining weight! I weigh 25.4 lbs – that a 2.2 lb GAIN since I went on my diet!!!! *sigh* I think I need doggy gastric-bypass surgery….

If anyone has ideas as to my weight gain and unhappiness, I’m all ears.

Noodle Schmoodle Buddy – You’re probably feeling like poop because you are stuffed fuller than you should be; your body is probably working overtime trying to process so much stuff, and (saving the best ’til last”) you have upset your Mum who loves you! Cut back on the eating; get out and play and run around; drink lots, and next time you are tempted to scoff a whole bag of stuff, remember how you are feeling right now! Woof! Dr. Ray.

putting on weight is really easy – taking it off is that hard part and for us dog takes a long time. We hear a lot about the doggie green bean diet where you replace half the kibble with unsalted canned green beans. Our Mom tried it with us and we just left all the greens bean in the bowl. She found the bet thing for us – was just to have breakfast and dinner and NO treats at all.

    • I’ve been on that diet for a year and a half. Mom uses frozen green beans. They are my most favorite food in the world. I also only get breakfast and dinner, no treats – except carrots sometimes.

  3. Samantha typing here- what a story! But I can imagine how impossible it was to resist the Pup-peroni…I don’t get them cause they’re doggy treats (duh) but I DO steal pepperonis off my human’s pizza! Anyway, so sorry it’s been an icky week! Unfortunately I’m not a doc, and PuppyDoc, is, hilariously, a human doc…but I think she would say that it’s most likely you not physically feeling too good leading you to feel a little grumpy. As for the weight gain though…my human would probably say something like this… “Hmm, well Noodle son, it may be nothing, but since other scary medical things can also cause weight gain, if your or your human’s sense is that something is wrong…it does not hurt to bring you to the vet, just in case…”

With that said, I hope you feel happy soon!

    Big fuzzy hugs – Samantha

  4. Noodle I didn’t know you were part PIGGY! That was a HUGE amount of treats to gobble down (not that I blame you of course) but I just bet your tummy wasn’t as happy as you were to eat those treats! Maybe you need more exercise to deal with the weight thing? More walks? Purrrrhaps a trip to the vet isn’t a bad idea!!!

    Hugs, Sammy

Noodle. Noodle. Noodle. Food stealing and chubbiness are definitely naughty behaviors. ….*cough* at least that’s what I’ve heard… *cough cough* Mom weighs me every week, and if I gain any weight, I am placed on treat restriction. No veggies, no nuthin’. Dog food only. It’s tough to exercise in the winter, but dancing, find-it, hide-n-seek, bowling, and chase are good indoor games. Good luck, buddy. xoxo

    Love and licks,

    • Cupcake – you always know how to make me feel better. Here I am thinking that I’ll never make it as a therapy dog and then you let me know that you can be a therapy dog and still need work. I can’t believe Mom forgot to get my bowling set when she went shopping today! *Insert super exasperated sigh here*

      Hugs ❤ ❤ ❤

  8. Noodle, I am distressed at your distress. If I had been tere, I would have helped you eat it all, then you would have only been half as round. I’ve found the best diet is having my “friend” Piper the schnauzer stay with us. He scarfs down all my food when I don’t finish it. He’s supposed to go home tonight. Do you want me to suggest he comes to your house, instead?

    • HE DOES WHAT?!?!?! How have you held your temper? Here I am all worried about how I’m going to share food on our picnic because I do not share food very well, and you’re letting Piper steal your meals! Lexi…don’t take that from Piper. That’s just rude.

Oh my goodness Noodle! I once ate too much dog food – my mommy didn’t realize my sister already gave me dinner, and I pigged out and ate a second dinner without telling her I was already full. But it didn’t work because I threw it up in two minutes. I feel for you, buddy! I hate diets – I put on a pound and my doctor said I had to take it off, so I’ve been treat-restricted for months!

  11. Snoodle honey,I used to get second dinners until my folks got wise to it. Now, when I lie don’t admit to having been fed and one of them is suspicious, texting happens. Busted!
I am used to not having to scarf down my food. I had a talk with Riley, and he doesn’t usually bother it. I eat the good topping right away, but leave a lot of the kibble. I forgot that Piper has always been like this since he hasn’t lived with us for a while. You better believe I remembered to eat it all tonight before he could get it.
Ummm, the picnic. I thought we would have people food – hotdogs and hamburgers type of food. If it’s just kibble, you won’t have any competition from me. Oh no. Mom just said that was rude of me, that I should be grateful and thank you even if it is potato chips (that I hate). I would NEVER be rude to you, my friend. (But I don’t want more kibble…)

  15. Heya Noodles! We’re sending love and healing puppy power to you!!

My Rocky had a thyroid problem and later Cushing’s that caused him to gain weight, be itchy, and have terrible allergies. In addition to thyroid and allergy medication, he was on a “limited ingredient” food which helped his skin allergies. He had to have special thyroid testing (his TSH was okay but his T4 wasn’t good) but we were able to figure out what was wrong and help him. We hope you and your family are able to get you fixed up and good as gold in no time!
